Snowdon Mountain Railway

The Snowdon Mountain Railway has been taking travellers to the summit of Snowdon since 1896. Back then, the summit was just a few huts but since 2009, visitors to top of Wales’ highest peak can find a purpose built visitors centre to relax in and take in the spectacular views.

The train runs from Llanberis station and the final destination changes depending on the time of year. Usually, in March and April the train runs as far as Clogwyn station which is approximately ¾ of the way up the mountain. From May until the end of October, passengers can enjoy the journey and views all the way to the summit.

The Snowdon Mountain Railway has various engines including one of the original steam engines. You can choose to travel to the summit of Snowdon on either diesel or traditional steam engines and from 2020, new hybrid engines have been added to the fleet. It is worth booking in advance though to ensure availability.
